Authorities in the capital of the southern Russian region of Dagestan declared a state of emergency on Saturday after heavy rainfall led to widespread flooding and power outages in the region.
– The emergency services have been put on high alert, efforts are underway to remediate the consequences, and help will be provided to the affected residents – the city administration of Makhachkala announced on Telegram.

More than 327,000 people remain without electricity in Dagestan due to bad weather, the regional emergency ministry said.
– As of 12:00 (Moscow time, 09:00 GMT), 283 settlements with a population of 327,183 people, including 89,705 children, remain without electricity – the ministry said on its website.
The head of the region, Sergei Melikov, said that emergency services and officials were preparing for worsening weather conditions, but that the actual situation “exceeded even the most pessimistic forecasts.”

Officials in Dagestan’s second-largest city, Hasavjurt, said a railway bridge was damaged due to heavy rainfall.
– Two spans of the bridge collapsed on the Khasavyurt-Kadiyurt section of the North Caucasian Railway – the press service of the Dagestan government announced.
According to forecasts, heavy rains in the region will continue until Sunday.
