The sports sector, with the full support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and the Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton, continues to systematically and responsibly strengthen sports as one of the most important social values of Zenica-Doboj Canton.
– Zenica-Doboj canton allocated record funds for sports this year, with more than five million convertible marks intended to support athletes, sports teams and sports federations. This is the largest investment in sports in the history of the Canton. The fact that the total allocations are planned to increase to six million convertible marks for 2026 is particularly encouraging, which further confirms the permanent commitment of ZDK institutions to the systemic development and improvement of sports at all levels. Through planning allocations, we clearly confirm our determination to recognize sport not only as a competitive activity, but also as a powerful tool for the healthy development of children and youth, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and community – said the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Mirza Mushija.
A special focus is placed on supporting sports federations, sports collectives, school sports and promising athletes, with an effort to allocate funds transparently, fairly and in accordance with the real needs of the sports system. These investments represent an investment in the future – in young people who develop discipline, teamwork, responsibility and respect through sports.
The Sports Sector at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports ensures systemic and financial support for the development of sports in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, contributing to the stability of the sports system and improving the working conditions of athletes and sports teams. Through strategic action, sport is additionally connected with youth development, healthy lifestyles and social integration.
The Canton of Zenica-Doboj continuously invests in the development of sports infrastructure, strengthening the conditions for the work of athletes, sports teams, sports associations and recreationists throughout the Canton. Auxiliary soccer fields and athletic tracks are currently being built in the municipalities of Tešanj and Doboj Jug, while sports club facilities are being modernized in the cities of Maglaj and Vareš.
In Zenica, the reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool at the Industrial School is being implemented, as well as the modernization of the Bilmišće sports hall, which are important centers for schools and local athletes. Through such planned investments, the Zenica-Doboj Canton creates a stable and modern sports system that encourages youth development, healthy lifestyles and social inclusion.
