The American site Global Firepower, specialized in the analysis of the military capacities of states, published the New Year’s ranking of the strongest military forces in 2025. On that list, Bosnia and Herzegovina is positioned in 132nd place out of 145 armies that are ranked.
The Global Firepower Index doesn’t just measure the number of tanks, planes or soldiers. The ranking is based on more than 60 indicators, including the military budget, the number of active and reserve soldiers, logistical capacities, the number and variety of weapons, infrastructure, the availability of natural resources, as well as the country’s geostrategic position.
Technological level is also taken into account, meaning that countries with more sophisticated command and control systems, advanced drones and cyber capabilities have a significant advantage.
According to the annual review for the year 2025, out of 145 countries whose military capabilities are included in the measurement indexes, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is in 132nd place.
In relation to the Global Firepower index for 2024, the Armed Forces of BiH moved from 133rd place.
On the other hand, among the countries of the region, the best ranked is Serbia, which is in 63rd place, followed by Croatia in 74th place and Slovenia in 96th place. Compared to Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia is in 112th place, while Montenegro is in 127th place.
The top ten countries according to the index for the year 2025 in terms of military strength are the USA, Russia, China, India, South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Turkey and Italy, it says Klix.
