Early detection of skin melanoma saves lives, and the results show the need for constant prevention programs.
Since 2013, a campaign is carried out in Zenica-Doboj Canton, a goal is to disclose melanoma and education of citizens about the dangers used by this insidious disease.
More and more self-conscious patients
-This project is one of the most comprehensive fight against malignant skin tumors in BiH, and its importance is also reflected in the fact that rural areas and smaller municipalities that do not have permanent access to dermatological protection, expiring dr. Selvedina Sarajlić – Spahić, Chief of Health Promotion and Quality in Health Institute for Health and Food Food Zenica (INZ).
Within the campaign of the Institute for Health and Food Zenica (INZ), 3,382 citizens received a free dermatological review, and the results indicate the need for a systemic approach in the fight against this wicked disease.
According to the Institute for Health and Food Food Zenica, in 175 people (7.3 percent) were detected by changes that required further diagnostic processing or treatment, of which in 143 cases were assessed to be clinically suspicious lesions.
-There that encourages and that almost every third case was suspicious and the patient itself, which is precisely due to free examinations, says Sarajlić – Spahić.
The data from the CCC says that the review was subjected mainly by women (71.17 percent), and that the main reason for the report was a large number of youth that a person has, and that three-quarters (77.8 percent) examined the skin had never accessed the skin exam before.
Unfortunately, the educational structure of the inspected indicates that persons with primary school occur, although these persons are dealing with the jobs that require a long-term exposure to the sun and therefore increased risk of melanoma.
Melanoma is ranked in 22. Place by mortality from all kinds of malignant tumors, with 58,667 recorded deaths per year, and 17. place by incidents with 331,722 new cases per year.
Of that, Europe (including BiH) leads in prevalence, mortality and incidents of melanoma in both sexes, with 44-45 percent of the total number of melanoma in all continents.
Melanam should be identified at a very early stage, because it is the highest survival rate, and if metastases in regional lymph nodes or internal organs of the forecast is uncertain with worse outcomes.
Recommendations of experts
Experts have been recommended for years of preventive skin prevention programs, financing the marketing of rural areas, the financing of dermatoscope, education of the skin protection, the use of protective equipment at increased risk.
Finally, experts and patients agree, Bosnia and Herzegovina needs a systematic and comprehensive approach to screening melanoma.
