A man employed by the Polish Ministry of Defense was arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of collaborating with the Russian intelligence service, the Onet portal reported, citing sources.
According to the Oneto report, the Ministry of Defense official was detained by Polish military counterintelligence at his workplace shortly after 8:00 a.m. (0700 GMT) and taken out of the building.
The ministry announced that a long-time employee was arrested and charged with “collaboration with a foreign intelligence service”, without specifying a specific country.
The Russian Embassy in Warsaw has not yet responded to a request for comment. Poland claims that its role as a humanitarian aid hub for Ukraine has made the country a key target for Russian espionage, sabotage and cyber attacks. Moscow has repeatedly rejected these accusations and accused Western powers of spreading anti-Russian propaganda.
Onet reported that the man is under investigation, and the Ministry of Defense stated that further arrests cannot be ruled out.
