Slovenian Tadej Pogačar is among the cyclists under investigation for running through a red light at a railway crossing during Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen race.
Pogačar, who won the race for the third time in his career, was among a group of cyclists who went through a red light without stopping. Most of the cyclists behind them stopped before the tracks.
Belgian officials confirmed Monday that an investigation is underway against the cyclists who allegedly ran a red light, without giving further details.
Local media reported that the cyclists could be fined and banned from driving if found guilty.
Race officials then ordered the cyclists who ran through the red light to slow down so the other competitors could catch up.
The Ronde van Vlaanderen is one of the most challenging one-day races, first held in 1913, reports Hina.
