The information was confirmed by the famous NBA insider Shams Charania.
“Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a ruptured lung and is expected to be out for an extended period of time,” Charania said.
Cunningham has been a key player for Detroit this season, averaging 24.5 points and 9.9 assists per game, which further emphasizes the severity of his absence for the team.
Pneumothorax occurs when air penetrates between the lungs and the chest, most often due to damage to the lung tissue, which causes difficulty breathing and the need for medical treatment.
