The Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, who resigned, Nihad Uk (Our Party), addressed the public in the KS Government building regarding the current situation, after the tragic tram accident that happened last Thursday.
“When I took responsibility, knowing both the positive and negative sides, I set the goal that, however long the mandate lasts, after it I can walk the streets upright, without any shame. Within 72 hours, we had three sessions of the Government, we were on the ground and visited the injured. We followed the protests that were happening, I could see colleagues from the street, acquaintances – these were not people who were imported into our city. They showed dissatisfaction with the authorities, I heard it. Young people called are also on my resignation. My resignation is not running away, but taking responsibility,” said Uk.
He added that no project will stop until the election of the new KS Government and that they will continue to work until then.
“Unfortunately, the tragedy happened in the sector in which the most investments were made. Hundreds of millions of KM were invested in public city transport. We found over 300 million KM in debt. A number of criminal charges were filed – 47 people were involved – but, unfortunately, nothing happened. Another institution that we strengthened was the KS Prosecutor’s Office. I insist that cases be opened and those responsible for the situation in GRAS be prosecuted. I welcome the director’s decision to resign and seek “I will introduce forced administration in GRAS. The most important thing is to finally establish a business process within this company that will guarantee safety,” said Uk.
He said that all the old trams have been withdrawn from public transport and that none will be put into traffic without a public announcement of the state of affairs.
“I am encouraged by the information that our Ella is currently stable,” said Uk.
Speaking about the new KS Government, Uk said that it is now a matter of parliamentary procedure.
“We have not talked with partners. My focus is exclusively on the tragedy and things that must be solved operationally in the functioning of the KS. The politicians will decide on the steps to be taken regarding the appointment of the new KS Government. Everything is open, but I hope that this Government will not remain until the election. I expect the policies, whether positional or oppositional, to agree and to finish it,” said Uk.
He said that his resignation was not an act of saving anyone, but an act of responsibility towards the citizens of Sarajevo.
