Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the killing of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s navy commander was “another example of cooperation between us and our friend, the United States.”
Israel announced earlier in the day that Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Iranian Guard Navy (IRGC), was killed in the attack. According to Israeli claims, Tangsiri was responsible for operations related to the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Israel Defense Forces also announced that the IRGC’s director of naval intelligence, Behnam Rezaei, was killed in the same attack.
Allegations of possible US involvement come as US President Donald Trump said Iran “should get serious soon” about talks.
