According to him, the documents on the termination of the agreement will be submitted for consideration after the start of the new parliamentary session and could be considered by mid-February.
If the legislative body approves the withdrawal, and then President Maja Sandu confirms it, Moldova will cease to be part of the CIS, reports RIA Novosti.
From 2022, Moldova ignores the meetings of the CIS, as well as the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), where it has observer status, and the country’s authorities have expressed a clear intention to reorient exports to Western markets.
Sandu stated that the country continues to harmonize the international legal framework “with European standards and priorities of European integration”.
By the end of last year, the country had already terminated 67 of the 255 documents signed within the CIS.
Former Moldovan president and socialist leader Igor Dodon said that the policy of the current leadership is contrary to national interests and does not reflect the wishes of the majority of citizens.
