The McLaren team introduced a new name to its driver development program – 11-year-old Briton Harry Williams, who became the youngest participant in this prestigious system in history.
The young karting driver joined the program even two years earlier than Lewis Hamilton did, who joined McLaren at the age of 13, while today’s team driver Lando Norris went through the same system later.
Williams began his racing career in 2021 in the Super Van series, and the following year he moved to the cadet category. At the end of 2022, he signed for Fusion Motorsport, after which he competed in numerous domestic and international karting competitions.
His progress was very fast – in 2024 he entered the top ten in the British IAME Inter Waterswift Championship, and soon after became the national champion of Great Britain in his category.
In the current season, he is already competing in the WSK Super Master Series in the junior competition, and performances in the WSK Euro Series, the Future Champions Series and the FIA Karting Championship are also planned.
The young driver did not hide his excitement about the new stage in his career, emphasizing that it is a great honor for him to become part of the McLaren program and that he is looking forward to learning and further progress, with the aim of moving to higher racing categories in the future.
