Guerra, who is a member of Venezuela’s National Assembly, spoke of the early hours of January 3 when US forces launched a military operation.
According to him, around 02:00, the first explosion of a missile was heard, followed by a new detonation in Caracas. At that point, he started trying to get in touch with his father by phone.
Maduro Guerra said he saw that his call was registered, but that the connection was disconnected without an answer. In the moments after the initial explosions, they did not know where the president was or what exactly had happened to him.
He emphasized that, in his opinion, it is open aggression.
“This is a military invasion. International treaties have been ignored and international law has been violated. The head of state and his wife, who have immunity under international law, have been kidnapped. We demand their immediate release and return to their homeland,” said Maduro Guerra.
Official data from the Venezuelan Ministry of the Interior state that about 100 people were killed in the American attacks, while a large number were wounded.
