Macron’s speech came after US President Donald Trump published a message he claimed to have received from Macron suggesting a G7 meeting on the sidelines of the Davos forum in Switzerland.
In his address, the French president warned that the current period is marked by the fact that international law is being ‘trampled’, while the ‘law of the stronger’ is increasingly taking precedence in global relations.
– This is obviously a very worrying time, Macron said, referring directly to the aggressive foreign policy of the Donald Trump administration.
He particularly criticized the recent trade agreements concluded with the United States of America under the threat of tariffs, stressing that such agreements “undermine export interests, seek maximum concessions and openly aim to weaken and subjugate Europe”, writes Jutarnji list.
At the same time, Macron re-emphasized his position that threats of tariffs that are used as a “lever of pressure on territorial sovereignty” are unacceptable.
The French president reappeared wearing dark glasses in the style of Top Gun, which he explained as a harmless rupture of a capillary in his eye.
