Liverpool will build a permanent memorial at Anfield to honor their former striker Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who were killed in a car crash last year in north-west Spain.
The heart-shaped sculpture called “Forever 20” refers to Jota’s jersey number, which has been retired by the non-league club at all levels, including the women’s and youth teams, Reuters reports.
The memorial will also feature Silva’s number 30 jersey when he played for Penafiel in Portugal’s second division.
“It will stand on a Granby Rock plinth laser-engraved with a dedication to both brothers,” Liverpool announced.
Jota helped Liverpool win the English Premier League last season, and with the club from Merseyside he also won the English FA Cup in 2022 and the League Cup in 2022 and 2024. He scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the Reds.
Ahead of the opening of the current Premier League season, Liverpool honored the Portuguese forward with a minute’s silence before kick-off against Bournemouth.
