The head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, spoke at today’s press conference in Moscow about Greenland and at one point he quoted Croatian President Zoran Milanović, which was reported by all Croatian media.
“Mr. Milanović said that only the people of Greenland can decide the fate of Greenland. If you put Crimea instead of Greenland, everything will be clearer,” Lavrov said.
He emphasized that the people of Crimea voted to join Russia. He pointed out that Crimea is as important to Russia as Greenland is to the USA.
While the American argument is that Greenland is important to them so that it is not occupied by the Chinese or Russians, Lavrov emphasizes that there is no evidence of this.
In a post on Facebook, Milanović said earlier that “Greenland and its future can only be decided by the Greenlandic people in accordance with the right to self-determination granted to them by the laws of the Kingdom of Denmark”.
“Given the current political and even military pretensions towards Greenland, an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark, I emphasize that Greenland and its future can only be decided by the Greenlandic people in accordance with the right to self-determination granted to them by the laws of the Kingdom of Denmark.
There is no security reason that can be above that right of the people of Greenland,” Milanović stated, among other things.
