More than 200 people, including about 70 children, died Tuesday in a landslide at the Rubaya coltan mine in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the mining ministry said Wednesday.
The accident occurred after heavy rains that triggered the landslide, writes Reuters.
The ministry’s data is in stark contrast to earlier information provided to Reuters by a senior official of the M23 rebel group. According to him, only five or six people lost their lives in the accident.
