Israeli forces ordered dozens of Palestinian families in the southern Gaza Strip to leave their homes in the first forced evacuation since October after residents and Hamas said on Tuesday that the army was expanding the area under its control.
Locals in Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Younis, said leaflets were dropped on Monday to families living in tent camps in al-Reqeb neighborhood.
– Urgent message. The area is under the control of the IDF. You must evacuate immediately – read the leaflets, written in Arabic, Hebrew and English, which the army dropped on al-Reqeb settlement in the town of Bani Suhaila.
In the two-year war before a US-brokered truce was signed in October, Israel dropped leaflets on areas that were then attacked or bombed, forcing some families to relocate several times.
Locals and a source from the Palestinian group Hamas said this was the first time they had been thrown since. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment, Reuters reports.
