This event caused a wave of indignation and questions about the safety of Mexico’s first female leader. According to the Houston Chronicle, Sheinbaum remained composed – she pushed the man’s hands away and said with a strained smile, “Don’t worry.”

The incident came just days after the assassination of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Alberto Manzo, a popular politician known for his fight against drug cartels and organized crime. His death – the seventh killing of a mayor in three years – sparked a wave of protests in the cities of Morelia, Uruapan and Apatzingán and further intensified criticism of Sheinbaum’s security policies.
Sheinbaum, who took office as Mexico’s first female president, is facing growing public pressure to crack down more decisively on the violence that continues to plague the country.
