The 2026 European Men’s Handball Championship, which will be jointly organized by Denmark, Sweden and Norway, will be held from January 15 to February 1, and the journey of the Croatian handball team will begin in the Swedish city of Malmö.
Challenge group E
Malmö will host one of the groups of the preliminary stage, and it will be there Croatia to seek their passage to the main round of the competition, writes Index.hr. In group E, with the host Sweden – a record five-time European champion – Croatian handball players are also expecting duels with The Netherlands and Georgia. Given that only two national teams advance, it is clear that every game will have a huge stake.
Malmö Arena match schedule
Group E matches will be played January 17, 19 and 21and two meetings are scheduled every evening, starting at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The host will be Malmö Arena, a hall with a capacity of around 15,000 spectators, which guarantees a real handball spectacle, especially in matches involving hosts Sweden and Croatia.
Road to the finish line in Denmark
But Malmö is not only the first stop. Part will be played in the same city the main rounds of the European Championship. The two best national teams from our group E will be joined by the two best selections from groups D and F, which include Slovenia, the Faroe Islands, Montenegro, Switzerland, Hungary, Iceland, Poland and Italy. The main round in Malmö is scheduled for January 23, 25, 27 and 28, and three matches will be played each day.
For the Croatian national team, Malmö represents the first big test at Euro 2026 and the beginning of the road that, we hope, leads to Herning in Denmark, where the fight for medals continues. Tickets for the matches in Malmö are already on sale through the official website eurohandball.com, and considering the attractive opponents, the interest of the fans is high.
