Haris Fidahić from Goražda is the new general secretary of the BiH Handball Association, and this appointment is a great recognition for his many years of work, dedication and selfless commitment to the development of handball.
His path in sports was marked by great effort, renunciation, responsibility and constant desire to contribute to the progress of handball in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he showed this on countless occasions – as a winner of the BiH Cup with MRK Goražde, a former cadet representative of BiH, as a coach he was the winner of the BiH state championship for juniors. He is the founder and coach of RK Radnički in Goražde and was the youngest coach in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also led ŽRK Goražde, which competes in this rank. With a law degree from the University of Sarajevo and the Faculty of Sports in Tuzla, this young and ambitious athlete already found his place in the Board of Directors of the Handball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he now heads.
For him, the appointment as General Secretary of the RS BiH is a great recognition and success.
– This is a huge recognition for me as a young person who is educated and willing to work, and I am glad that they recognized me in the Handball Association. The general secretary is a very serious and big position, he is the first man of handball in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I have been in sports all my life, in Goražde, and I was also a member of the cadet national team. I very gladly accepted the invitation of the RS BiH and I am aware that a great responsibility rests on me, but I am ready for the challenges that await me – said Fidahić.
Given that he has gone through all stages, from player, coach to sports worker, he believes that the experience he has gained will be of great help to him.
– When we formed RK Radnički, there were a lot of administrative things that I had to learn because it was no longer just “a ball, a field of sneakers” and that will help me in some part. We also have national selections and there will be a lot more work, but I am looking forward to that challenge. I will study, work on myself. It will be hard, especially at the beginning, because we already have representative gatherings, but I hope that the handball players as well as the football players will make us happy by placing in a big competition – he said.
Speaking about the state of handball in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he believes that there is room for improvement.
– If the situation in handball is good, then let’s create a “black hole”, I can say to myself. The bright spot is Scout from Ljubuški, who represents us well in Europe, our national team achieves as many good results as possible. A standard problem is the poor gathering of youth teams. The handball association had big problems regarding the blocking of the account, and some 30,000 KM remained to be paid off and the account to be functional. This double match that our A national team is playing against the Faroe Islands would help us a lot to qualify for the big competition – Fidahić points out.
However, he states that it is necessary to go step by step and work on stabilization.
– We received from the European Handball Federation how the Association should adapt to European norms. We have an assembly in June, and I think that after that, better days will begin for Bosnia and Herzegovina. football. The biggest space for the development of handball at the national level is with the youth selections, which gather very little on an annual basis. We also have a very good and quality diaspora, children who train in very good clubs but have the desire to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina. I think that we can draw quality from that base and popularize handball as one of the most trophy sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina – said the Secretary General of the RS Bosnia and Herzegovina.
