Handball club Željezničar has announced that after 16 years it is renewing its work, with a clear ambition to once again become an important sports symbol of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
May 28, 48 years ago RK Željezničar he won the title of champion of the former Yugoslavia and entered the ranks forever big and recognizable names of handball in these areas. Generations of athletes, fans and lovers of handball remember Željezničar as a club of tradition, character and winning spirit. It is this tradition that today represents an obligation and a motive to return handball in Sarajevo to the paths of its old glory.
He gathered around the idea of rebuilding the club a large number of people from different segments of society – former athletes, entrepreneurs, fans, sports workers and friends of the club – with the common goal of returning Željezničar to where it belongs.
The club’s strategic commitment from the first day is development of young players through its own academy and the creation of a domestic base of handball players who will wear the RK Željezničar jersey in the years to come. In this direction, cooperation with the Sedmerac Handball School has already been established, which represents an important strategic step in the creation of a quality youth facility and long-term development of the club.
At the same time, it is ongoing completing the playing staff for the next season, which the club will play in the FBiH First League. The management’s decision is to rely on local players from Sarajevo, with a few players from outside the capital. The wish is for RK Željezničar to be a club with a domestic identity and recognizable character.
RK Željezničar made contacts and preliminary talks were held on cooperation with individual members of the sports club Željezničar, with the aim joint development, cooperation and contribution strengthening the sports identity and creating a strong sports family under the name Željezničar, of which the handball club wants to become a recognizable part.
The management and the players have a big job ahead of them, but also a big emotion. We count on the support of all those who have handball and the color blue in their hearts, and especially on the support of the fans who have been a huge supporter of the club for decades.
