Speaking in Vilnius, at the summit of the Central European and Nordic states, Greenski emphasized that the only way towards peace in Europe – determined to oppose Russian aggression.
“The key to permanent peace is clear: The aggressor must not receive any war reward,” Ukrainian president said, and added:
“Putin must not get anything that would justify his aggression. Any prize would only show him that the war pays off.”
He reiterated the request for stricter sanctions against Russia, especially calling to seriously restrict Russian oil and the use of tankers.
“No pressure, Putin will just keep playing games with everyone who wants the end of this war,” he warned.
He also announced that he expects new exchanges of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia, after the previous round, in which 1,000 prisoners were exchanged, successfully implemented last month.
Greenska said that the goal must not be conscious only to the short term termination of the conflict, but to completely combat “Russian hunger for aggression.” His speech comes in the moment when NATO and partner countries are increasingly discussing defensive readiness, and the Secretary-General Mark Rutte said that NATO is in the “most dangerous security environment in decades.”
Summit in Vilnius is held three weeks before the official NATO summit in The Hague, which will be discussed to strengthen defense cooperation and long-term strategies for deterrence Russia. Leaders from Nordic and Central European countries, including Denmark, Poland, Romania and the Lithuania, are participating in the meeting in Lithuania.
