Google Street View is now also available in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Almost all cities in the country have already been mapped, and in the coming period it is planned to cover all main and secondary roads, explained Armin Hamidović, director of Google Maps operations for BiH.
The Google company says that they are particularly proud to have recorded UNESCO-protected monuments, such as the Old Bridge in Mostar and the Mehmed Pasha Sokolović Bridge in Višegrad, while in Sarajevo they managed to record all the key sights of the Town Hall, Sebilj, Baščaršija and numerous other locations.
“We are really proud that we managed to record the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and show it to the world. It is especially significant that we managed to capture many sights in Sarajevo from a car, which was not possible before,” said Hamidović.
The Federal Administration for Geodetic and Property Legal Affairs says that this project represents an important technological advance.
The goal of cooperation with Google, they say, is to enable citizens to access accurate, up-to-date and official data provided by local self-government units.
What is Google Street View
Street View is a 360-degree rotating panoramic street view option. Integrated into Google Maps, this function allows users to virtually “walk” through the streets of cities, and in some cases to “enter” galleries, museums and other facilities.
According to Google, there are two sources of photos that are displayed in Street View: Official Google images, created with the help of Google’s Street View cars or trekkers.
These contents are signed with the label “Street View” or “Google Maps”. Faces and license plates are automatically blurred to protect privacy.
Recordings uploaded by users, i.e. citizens who own 360° cameras and meet Google’s technical criteria, are displayed next to the author’s profile name, so it is possible to distinguish official Google recordings from those uploaded by users, they write. Vijesti.ba
