Paris police chief Patrice Faure announced on the X social network that he acted at the request of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.
“At the request of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, I issued an order banning the 40th Annual Meeting of the Muslims of France, which was scheduled to take place from April 3 to 6 at the Paris-Le Bourget Exhibition Center,” Faure said.
He explained that the decision was made due to the current circumstances.
“The decision was made in a national and international context characterized by heightened tensions and a heightened level of terrorism. There are also risks of disrupting public order and peace, and there will be an increased police presence on the streets in the coming days,” he added.
The ban comes after France raised the level of security at sensitive locations across Paris. The occasion was the foiled bombing of the Bank of America offices last weekend, and everything is happening in the context of the American-Israeli war against Iran.
Makhlouf Mameche, head of the organization that prepared the event, confirmed that they had received the ban order. He announced that his organization would appeal the decision.
