At least four people were killed and key infrastructure damaged in Russian airstrikes in Ukraine overnight on Saturday, while one child was killed in a Ukrainian airstrike in Russia, local authorities said.
Russia has been conducting nightly drone and missile attacks on Ukraine since the beginning of the February 2022 invasion launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Kiev accuses Moscow of attacking residential areas and targeting civilians.
– In the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa, two people were killed, and at least 13 were wounded, according to information provided by the head of the local military administration Serhij Lisak. One impact hit the roof of the maternity hospital.
Photos released by Ukrainian emergency services show broken windows, rubble inside the building and firefighters clearing the remains of the rubble at the scene of the attack.
– There was absolutely no military objective there. It is simply pure terrorism against civilian lives, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social networks in connection with the bombing of Odessa.
The port in the Odesa region was also damaged in the attacks. The Ukrainian State Port Authority has reported that its infrastructure has been attacked several times.
During the night, Russia launched 273 drones on the territory of Ukraine. 252 were shot down, as the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Saturday.
Further north, in Krivo Rih, a man was killed in this morning’s attack on an industrial plant, said the head of the Dnipro regional administration, Oleksander Ganža, adding that fires broke out in that place.
One person was killed in the Poltava region of central Ukraine after Russian drones hit a residential building and industrial facilities, local authorities said.
– Every attack of this type is proof that Russia has no intention of ending this war. Therefore, any easing of pressure on it is dangerous, Zelenski said.
At the same time, a child was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on Yaroslavl, north of Moscow and, as local governor Mikhail Yevrayev said, far from the front lines. Russian authorities reported that 155 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed in Russian airspace overnight.
Since the beginning of the invasion in February 2022, Russia has attacked Ukraine on a daily basis, often resulting in civilian casualties.
But Kiev has also stepped up its attacks on Russia, targeting an ever wider area.
