The leadership of Formula 1 intends to cancel races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to the war in Iran and instability in the region, ESPN reported, citing Reuters.
According to sources, the decision should be officially announced during the weekend.
In the calendar of the World Championship, the race for the Bahrain Grand Prix was scheduled for April 12, while the race in Saudi Arabia was supposed to be held on April 19.
It was not possible to postpone the decision due to logistics and the time needed for the teams to transport the equipment to the races.
A month ago, the Formula 1 teams tested on the Bahrain International Circuit.
According to ESPN, the canceled races will probably not be held as the Formula 1 calendar is already full.
In that case, the season would have 22 races, with a five-week break between the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29 and the Miami Grand Prix on May 3.
