Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences, noting that in addition to “being the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her important contributions to the country’s development, as well as India-Bangladesh relations, will always be remembered.”
Sajeeb Wazed, the son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said in a statement that Zia’s death would have a profound impact on the country’s transition.
– We will remember her for her contribution to nation building. Her death represents a blow to the stabilization of Bangladesh – said Wazed, whose mother was Khaleda Zia’s biggest political rival, reports AP.
