In the last match of the quarterfinals, the American hockey players defeated the Swedes 2:1 after extra time.
The Americans took the lead in the second period of the match for a 1:0 lead and that result remained on the scoreboard almost until the end of the game.
Sweden pulled the goalkeeper from the goal in the finish to have a player more in an effort to score an overtime goal and they did it with 90 seconds left.
However, in overtime, in a three-on-three game, the USA scored a goal to win 2:1.
Earlier on Wednesday, Slovakia qualified for the semi-finals against Germany. Canada had to play overtime against the Czech Republic, as did Finland against Switzerland.
The fight for honors starts on Friday, and the semi-final pairs are Canada – Finland and USA – Slovakia.
