The races for the Grand Prix of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have been officially cancelled, Formula 1 has announced.
They were originally scheduled for April 12 and April 19.
In a statement, Formula 1 said the cancellation was due to the “current situation in the Middle East” and that alternatives had been considered, but there would be no replacement races.
This will create a five-week break between the Japanese Grand Prix (March 27–29) and the Miami Grand Prix (May 1–3).
“The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile will always put the safety and well-being of our community and colleagues first. After careful consideration we have made this decision with that responsibility in mind,” said FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
