The European Union accepted the request of Bosnia and Herzegovina without a hold for financial assistance from the EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF), which was opened to the award of the rehabilitation of the razor floods that hit the country in October last year, writes Večernji list BiH.
According to the letter, which director of the European Commission’s regional and urban policy, Themis Christophidou sent Borjani Krysto Ministers to the Chairman of the BiH Council, the submitted documentation was assessed as detailed, coherent and credible. In the letter, it is stated that there was no need for additional explanations, and that damage is clearly associated with extreme weather conditions that led to floods.
The report specifies that abundant precipitation fell in a very short period of time, combined with the terrain configuration, caused sudden water to water and the flooding of populated areas.
Bosnia and Herzegovina reported total damage from almost 842 million euros, and the EU is expected to be awarded to assistance between 5.5 and 6.5 percent of that amount between 46 and 55 million euros, ie up to 100 million convertible marks.
We remind you, in the night between 3. and 4. October 2024. Strongly storm affected the parts of the Central Bosnia and Herzegovina-Neretva Canton. Due to heavy precipitation, there was a torrent floods that read great damage and took 27 human lives.
The most convenient settlements in Jablanica, Konjic, Mostar (especially the area of Drežnice), Fojnica, Kreševo and Kiseljak were inhabited.
EU funds are expected to be focused on the renovation of infrastructure, homes and public facilities in the most severely affected local communities.
