The football players of Široki Brijeg and Željeznicar drew in the derby of the 26th round of the WWin League BiH with a score of 1:1 in the match played on Sunday at Pecara. Senić scored for the home team, and Seedorf for the visitors.
However, the result this time fell into the background because ugly scenes which have nothing to do with sports and which largely characterized the entire meeting. Visiting fans started arriving in the east stand of the Pecara Stadium in the 21st minute, while problems started in the second half.
The official announcer repeatedly warned the away fans that there could be an interruption of the game if they do not remove a certain banner, but they did warnings ignored.
Since Železničar fans continued with the same behavior, there was an interruptionand in the meantime, a series of extremely inappropriate messages could be heard in the stadium, such as: “Gazi Ustaše”, “Država Bosnia”, “J*bi Široki, Široki maleni”, “J*bemo vam mater up***”, etc.
Despite all that, part of the media – which didn’t even have their own journalists on the ground – decided to market a one-sided and extremely problematic picture of the eventreporting exclusively on the “shameful chanting of the home fans”, completely glossing over the context, the course of events and everything that preceded the interruptions. Such an approach is not only bad journalism, but conscious distortion of reality.
Manipulation of information, selective reporting and ignoring of key facts grossly violate the rules of the profession and elementary ethical standards of journalism.
Let’s also add that the shouting of the home fans followed all the aforementioned shouting of the visiting fans, and until then no one had addressed them with a single derogatory word.
