At that moment, the actor was on vacation in St. Barths in the company of his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, Tom Brady and friends, and due to air traffic restrictions in the Caribbean, he could not leave the island.
The disruption in air traffic occurred after the escalation of the conflict between the United States of America and Venezuela, which resulted in the closure of part of the airspace.
“Leonardo DiCaprio is unfortunately unable to join us due to unexpected travel issues and limited air space. Although we will miss his presence, we are extremely honored to recognize his work and his many years of contribution to the art of film. His talent and dedication continue to inspire,” said a spokesman for the Palm Springs Film Festival.
During the ceremony, the organizers broadcast DiCaprio’s video message in which he emphasized that movies should still be a shared experience in movie theaters.
“At this moment, that belief is more important to us than ever,” said the actor.
