The efforts of the US President Donald Trump to take control of Greenland represent a global threat, said Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederixen in the Newsweek interview.
Conflict with Trump, which did not exclude the use of force to move Grenland under American control, called a dangerous precedent for relations between allies.
“We cannot agree to the idea that great forces apprieve other people’s territory. It undermines the world’s order built after World War II,” Frederixen said, writes Newsweek.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Greenland must decide on his destiny, adding that most of his inhabitants oppose the idea of joining the United States, although they support independence from Denmark.
The dispute with the USA caused concern within NATO. Frederixen pointed out that the attack of one ally would be “very wrong and dangerous to another, adding that Denmark supports the security of the Arctic, but not under the threat of force.
She also warned of growing global divisions, trade wars and threats from Russian influence. Denmark, one of the larger supporters of Ukraine in relation to his economic power, believes that Russian victories would be a “disaster”.
In the conclusion, Frederixen called on the strengthening of the European Defense: “We cannot expect someone else to defend us if we are not ready to do it ourselves.”
