The event began broadcasting the video of the original execution of the “Srebrenica Infern”, after which the program officially opened Amra Agović-Ugarak, which moderated the entire event.
Introductory addresses have referred to NJ. E. Anesa Kundurović-Miljak, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Denmark, and Lotte Machon, State Secretary of Foreign Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. Ambassador Kundurović-Miljak spoke about the permanent obligation of the international community towards victims and survivors, as the genocide would not be repeated anywhere. In this context, the support of the Kingdom of Denmark in the protection of the state of BiH and the effort to become a member of the European Union.
The State Secretary for the Foreign Policy of Denmark Lotte Machon said that Denmark would remain the importance of memorialization and spread lessons that everyone should learn from genocide over Bosniaks in Srebrenica.
– Srebrenica pain echo and here, in the present. As the international community we have an obligation to preserve the memory of the victims, remember terrible crimes to make sure that this time we have learned to avoid such things can never happen again. Only the memory is not enough. At the 30th anniversary of Srebrenica, there must be an invitation to the action to promote reconciliation and stop the negation and silencing of genocide, and affirming our commitment to truth and justice, justice for victims. Justice is not only the responsibility of the perpetrators of crimes, but also building a society in which such a crime is absolutely unthinkable – said Secretary Machon.
It has pointed out that Denmark follows the current endangerment of stability, the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attacks the independence of the judiciary, and will, as a state with the mandate of the EU presidency, be dedicated to the BiH’s path to the European Union.
On behalf of the Islamic community of BiH, Muhamed Jusić, the Director of the Riyaset Management Board, emphasizing the role of religious communities in nurturing the culture of memories and greetings from Reisul-Ulema from BiH Husein-ef. Kavazovic who said that the citizens of BiH are aware of the support of Denmark in Memorialization, but also to rebuilding and building Bosnia and Herzegovina, and efforts to join the European Union.
A special emotional moment was a video attachment Ahmed-ef. Hrustanović, Imam of the White Mosque in Srebrenica and the survivor of the genocide witness, sent a strong message about the resistance and spiritual strength through his own story.
The central part of the program consisted of panel-discussion on the topic: “From the memory of responsibility – how do societies learn from the past?”
The panel spoke prominent experts and genocide witnesses in Srebrenica: Anders Levinsen, former UNHCR heads in Tuzla and the founder of Cross Cultures, prof. Emeritus Frederik Harhoff, former judge of the Hague tribunal and an expert in international law, dr. Hikmet Karčić, scientific associate of the Institute for Real Review of Crimes against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo, and Camil Durakovic, Vice President of RS and the former Chief of Srebrenica shared his own memories of Srebrenica genocide.
Participants pointed out the need for global recognition of genocide in Srebrenica, especially after numerous international verdicts and resolution of genocide in Srebrenica, as well as the role of education, media and policies in the prevention of similar tragedies in the future, because as dr. Karčić: “The genocide in Srebrenica is not only the history of Bosniaks, but it is part of the European History; one European people committed genocide over another European people and that is part of the history of Europe itself.”
The program was concluded with the session of questions and answers with the audience, and visitors had the opportunity to see the exhibition “genocide in Srebrenica: eleven lessons for the future” after the formal part. Representatives of the non-governmental sector, ambassadors, representatives of the Islamic community of Bosniaks in Denmark with the main imam Muamer-ef were also attended. The “world remembers Srebrenica” is an international project aimed at getting to know the world public with the facts regarding the genocide in Srebrenica.
