According to him, the USA has complete military dominance in the world, but it could lose any claim based on human rights and the promotion of democracy.
– In a way, it can be seen as imperialism, and Trump’s statements, quite often, do not have any moral basis – said Daniele.
He emphasized that with this turn, which includes leaving international organizations, the US is openly trying to dismantle the historical experience of international criminal justice, starting with sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC).
– The problem is not just withdrawal, but an active effort to end international criminal justice and, frankly, international jurisdictions in general – he added.
Daniele believes that the burden will be on civil society, in Europe and beyond, to create increasing pressure to change policy and impose an agenda for defense, revitalization and strengthening of international institutions through mobilization and new global alliances.
– Both American and European financial capitalists, as well as the ruling elites they elect, do not care about international law and justice. They see the world through wars, aggressions, annexations, regime changes, as well as genocides, which is the case with Gaza, and that has become the “new normal”, that is, a rich business opportunity – said Daniele.
He assessed that the peoples of Europe once again have the historical burden to reject all the forces that bring democracy to its knees.
– The biggest dangers for democracy are within their ranks, not in China or Russia. Pretending that all the enemies are out there and somewhere else is always a useful ploy to cover up a lack of vision and an inability to make policies. It is not necessarily a bad thing that now no one can deny this crisis anymore – concluded Daniele.
