The Cantonal Court in Tuzla confirmed the indictment of the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of Tuzla Canton in the criminal case against Besim Kopić, Miralem Halilović, Jasmin Modrić, Dževad Požegić, Šemsudin Kadrić, Zijad Jagodić, Sulejman Šehić and Nedim Avdić, who are charged with the prolonged criminal offense of human trafficking.
The case refers to the exploitation of two minor girls for the purpose of prostitution in the period from April 2024 to the end of July 2025.
Prolonged custody of the accused
After confirming the indictment, the court issued a decision on extending the custody of the accused for an additional two months. The detention of the accused Besim Kopić, Šemsudin Kadrić, Miralem Halilović, Jasmin Modrić and Sulejman Šehić can last for a maximum of two years from the date of confirmation of the indictment, and before the pronouncement of the first-instance verdict.
For the accused Zijad Jagodić, Dževad Požegić and Nedim Avdić, custody can last no longer than one year after the confirmation of the indictment, and before the pronouncement of the first-instance verdict. The court is obliged to check the justification of the detention measure every two months, ex officio.
Reasons for extension of detention
The detention measure was extended for the reasons prescribed by Article 146, paragraph 1, points b), c) and d) of the Law on Criminal Procedure of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The reasons include the existence of special circumstances that indicate the danger of repeating the criminal act, the possibility of influencing the witnesses of certain defendants, as well as the real threat of disturbing public order and peace, they write.
