It is the largest financial sanction that the Premier League has ever imposed, and the previous record in that section was held by West Ham, who were fined 6.3 million euros in 2007.
The reason why the London club was fined is the controversial business deals or controversial payments for the time of the ownership of the Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, which were exposed after the sale of the club to the American businessman Todd Boehly in 2022.
Several cases of unexplained third-party payments to players and other club members between 2011 and 2018 were found, with the club already fined ten million euros by UEFA in July 2023.
The punishment includes a nine-month ban on signing contracts with members of their own football academy, the Premier League management announced.
