A humanitarian campaign was launched to help Anastasia Kočić, a girl born in 2018 from Orašje, who has been facing serious and complex health problems since birth.
Anastasia was born with spina bifida, hydrocephalus and Arnold-Chiari malformation type 2, and she also has a neurogenic bladder and numerous other health problems. Already in the first days of her life, she underwent multiple operations. The first operation was to close the spina bifida, i.e. the opening on the back, followed by the installation of a VP shunt – a ventriculoperitoneal drainage system, which regulates the pressure created by the accumulation of fluid in the brain.
Due to her health condition, Anastasia cannot walk or speak. Catheterization has to be done every day, even five times a day, because he is unable to empty his bladder on his own, which often leads to infections and inflammation accompanied by bacteria in the urine. An additional problem is the twisting of her left leg, which is why she needs regular physical treatments.
Treatment and therapy, as well as other necessary medical interventions, are performed outside the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which represents a great financial and logistical challenge for the family. Anastasija has an established 100% disability and requires continuous, 24-hour care. She is taken care of by her parents and older sister, who make superhuman efforts every day to provide her with the best possible quality of life.
In addition to funds for treatment and therapy, the family urgently needs help in getting a car adapted to Anastasia’s needs, so that going to check-ups and rehabilitation would be safer and easier for her.
