All NATO countries enjoy the same level of protection, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Velizar Shalamanov at the briefing of the working group at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the war in the Middle East.
Earlier, Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias announced that Greece will support Bulgaria with air defense assets and personnel that will be deployed in northern Greece and cover a large part of Bulgarian territory.
Answering the question, Shalamanov clarified that the move refers to the strengthening of NATO’s integrated air and missile defense system, which was a decision made within the Alliance, including at the request of Bulgaria.
Decisions in NATO are made by consensus and depend on the capabilities of individual member states, said the deputy minister.
He added that Greece has taken the initiative to strengthen air and missile defense in its northern part, which directly covers part of Bulgaria.
According to Shalamanov, all countries within NATO are protected at the same level.
Alliance assets, including Aegis ships in the Eastern Mediterranean, land-based Aegis systems in Romania, Patriot systems deployed by Spain in Turkey, as well as other capabilities, guarantee the protection of this country.
He said this protection will continue to evolve depending on the situation.
Currently, NATO is carefully monitoring the events in the Middle East with concern and not a single centimeter of allied territory will be left unprotected, the deputy minister assured, BTA reported.
