Protests by carriers from BiH and the region held last week set off alarms in Brussels. However, there are no quick solutions, highlights minister Edin Forto after a meeting with European officials. On the other hand, carriers are satisfied. The solution to their problem, they believe, is in sight.
Blockades have ended, but instead, communication noise is currently in effect. Unlike the minister, who “doesn’t bring good news” from Brussels, the carriers gathered around the Logistics Consortium of Bosnia and Herzegovina are optimistic.
“The news is good. Yesterday it was agreed to form a working group that would come to a solution as soon as possible on how to implement what was already promised on Thursday last week, which is that the drivers will be recognized, that they will have visas, that it will be done electronically and that it will be multi-year. This seems a little superficial on his part yesterday, that the information “is not good”, stated Edin Čaušević, a member of the board of the Logistics Consortium of BiH.
That regardless of the outcome of the blockades, “there are no quick solutions in Brussels”, pointed out last week the relevant state minister Edin Forto. Nevertheless, he believes, the regional protests have borne fruit. Talks with local officials will continue in the following days.
“What I can say is that I don’t have good news. There is no quick solution, but the only thing we have on the horizon is the formation of a working group that will concretely, in the coming period, try to come up with some proposal for the European Commission, which would help with the stay of our drivers”, said Forto.
In the meantime, the European Commission reiterates that they are aware of the concerns of the transport community of the Western Balkans.
“The aim of the meeting was to ensure a clear understanding of the functioning of the entry/exit system and to discuss measures to mitigate potential negative impacts. The Commission and Western Balkan partners will continue the exchange of views in the form of a working group at the technical level,” the EC said.
