Unlike previous years, the city of Bethlehem is not decorated with a Christmas tree or festive lighting. Instead, he felt a gloomy atmosphere of solidarity with Gaza, where the lives of innocents are extinguished in genocide, in scenes that shake the human conscience, reports the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Bethlehem, the birthplace of Christ, is going through difficult times, like many other cities, towns, villages and refugee camps in Palestine, due to the ongoing Israeli attacks and crimes against the Palestinian people and the subsequent impact on daily life and the economy since October 7 in 2023.

Bethlehem, which this year celebrates Christmas in an atmosphere of sadness, remains a witness to the suffering of the Palestinians and their constant striving for peace. In every song, tear and candle, the message remained the same – peace will remain the goal, and love is stronger than any oppression.

On Manger Square, in front of the Church of the Nativity, attendance was lower than in previous years. There was no celebration in the traditional sense; instead, hearts are heavy with sorrow.

Gone were the usual decorations and the large Christmas tree that traditionally decorated Manger Square, replaced by a deep sense of solidarity with the people of Gaza, while prayer circles were formed to pray for an end to the bloodshed and justice.
