Arsenal players achieved an extremely important victory on the road at West Ham United, winning 1:0 in the 36th round of the English championship.
With this triumph, Arsenal took a big step towards winning the title, the first since 2004, and strengthened their position at the very top of the table.
The only goal of the match was scored by Leandro Trossard in the 83rd minute. The action started via Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard, after which the Belgian striker hit the bottom left corner of the goal with a precise shot from about 14 meters.
The home team briefly believed they had equalized in stoppage time, when Callum Wilson’s shot crossed the goal line. However, after the intervention of the VAR system, the goal was disallowed due to a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya at the start of the action.
With this win, Arsenal extended their lead over second-placed Manchester City to five points, with a game in hand. Until the end of the season, “The Gunners” have two more matches – against Burnley and Crystal Palace.
With this defeat, West Ham moved even closer to the relegation zone, remaining on 36 points, which is only one point more than the teams fighting for survival in the league.
