U.S. senators wrote to State Secretary Marca Rubia from which an emergency action for the protection of the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of BiH United and partner associations. They also designed a strategic plan to resolve the growing crisis.
US Senators Chuck Grassley (Republican Party) and Jeanne Shaheen are led by the congress initiative calling for emergency diplomatic intervention with the aim of stopping unconstitutional shops in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This initiative, strongly supported by BiH United and partnership associations, emphasizes the urgency of the protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty.
Senator Jim Risch (Republican Party), President of the US Senate Committee, also joined this initiative, which includes an official letter sent to State Secretary Marca Rubia.
“The letter is a key diplomatic response to the recent unconstitutional moves of Republika Srpska, which threatens the destabilization of the region,” said in the Washington statement.
Senator Grassley emphasized the seriousness of the situation with the statement: “The United States is also observed by who in the region supports stability, and who is committed to the return of ethnic separatism and possible genocide that could be repeated. Remember, for those same people, neither the 1990s have not finished well. “
The urgency of the congress intervention is additionally enhanced by the latest developments in the Republika Srpska. Dodik rejected cooperation with the State Prosecutor’s Office that explores it due to the endangering of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, calling an investigation into the “persecution” and warning the consequences of the Eventual Arrest on the RS Territory. He also threatened that he would ask Russia to put the veto to extend the EUFOR mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UN Security Council.
Reacting to these alarming events, the U.S. Senate condemned Dodik’s procedures and reaffirmed its support to the constitutional integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Senators called on quick and determined measures to combat these threats, which includes diplomatic pressure and additional targeting of sanctions against individuals that endanger the stability of the region.
In cooperation with BiH United and partnership associations, congress leaders formulated a strategic plan to address the growing crisis, which includes:
Expanding targeted sanctions against persons violating Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty
Appointment of special envoy for the Western Balkans to coordinate diplomatic efforts
Coordinated international pressure against secessionist threats
A clear confirmation of the devotion of the United States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina
“This congress initiative directly challenges the proposals of the Constitutional Amendments to the Republika Srpska, aimed at illegal appropriation of sovereign status, establishing mechanisms for possible secession and the creation of unauthorized military structures. This intervention is a reflection of the firm commitment to the United States of America’s international stability and the insurance of the peaceful and democratic future for Bosnia and Herzegovina, “they said.
BiH United and partner associations are members of the Bosnian community in the United States and are actively working on strengthening the links between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States.
