A French woman living in the Swiss village of Sainte-Croix was “placed in custody after being arrested by the border patrol on November 2,” police in the canton of Vaud in western Switzerland said.
– It is suspected that she started a fire in her house and that she is involved in the disappearance of her landlord – said the regional police.
Multiple sources told AFP on Tuesday that a French woman living in the canton of Vaud was arrested after a dismembered body was discovered on Saturday in Fedry, a small village in Haute-Saone in neighboring eastern France.
Sources said that the arrested woman was identified as a tenant of an apartment owned by a 75-year-old Swiss man who was reported missing on Friday.
– Although formal identification procedures are still ongoing, initial findings suggest that this could be the person who disappeared in Sainte-Croix – the Vaud police said.
The suspect and the missing man lived in a Swiss border village, which is about a hundred kilometers from Fedry.
Vaud police said the woman is in custody under criminal investigation and is suspected of setting a fire in her apartment on Sunday.
Border police arrested her shortly after the fire and questioned her.
– The body found on the banks of the Saone river in Fedry was dressed only in underwear and was cut in half at the waist and covered with a white substance – said Arnaud Grecourt, the prosecutor of the district of Vesoul in Haute-Saone.
– It had a burn on its back and several wounds on its skull, one arm, neck and trunk – he added.
According to the first results of the autopsy, the victim died of bleeding caused by a stab wound in the chest. His body was apparently cut up after death.
