Air defenses shot down a drone near the residence of the leader of Iraq’s ruling Kurdish party, Masoud Barzani, in Erbil, security sources told Reuters early on Sunday.
Security sources said Saturday that a drone strike targeted the home of the president of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, in an incident that comes as tensions continue to rise across northern Iraq.
The airstrikes have targeted locations controlled by an Iraqi militia group backed by Iran, as well as the Kurdish Peshmerga since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran.
Iraqi forces have accused the United States and Israel of carrying out some of these airstrikes.
Tehran-backed groups have also launched attacks on US bases in Iraq and the US embassy.
