In a post on the US-based company X’s social network, Zelensky announced a meeting with Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov and chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov, during which they submitted a report after productive cooperation with the American side.
“They cooperated productively with the envoys of President (Donald) Trump and now several draft documents have been prepared,” Zelensky said, adding:
“Specifically, it includes documents on security guarantees for Ukraine, on recovery and on a basic framework for ending this war.”
He said that these documents were put in place in a way that corresponds to the goal of ending the almost four-year war between Russia and Ukraine and the need to prevent a new conflict.
“Each round of negotiations and meetings contributes to the protection of Ukraine’s interests and we will continue this work in the same constructive way,” he said, expressing gratitude to European partners for their support and coordination.
The Ukrainian president went on to say that Kiev looks forward to continuing dialogue with Washington, adding: “It is important that diplomacy always goes hand in hand with the necessary pressure on Russia and the necessary support for Ukraine.”
In an earlier statement on Monday night on Xu, Zelensky announced that the Ukrainian negotiating team was returning from Miami after talks and that “everything possible” needed to be done for the initial drafts had already been done.
“The essence of all the documents is ready. The essence is this. There are certain things that we are not ready to accept. And there are things – I am sure – that the Russians are not ready to accept either. The Americans are currently continuing negotiations with Russian representatives. They will hold talks, and then we will get feedback from them. From our side, they have received all the information,” he added.
On Sunday, US special envoy Steve Witkoff wrote on Xu that a Ukrainian delegation held a series of “productive and constructive” meetings in Florida with US and European negotiators over three days as part of efforts to end the conflict.
He added that the focus of the separate US-Ukraine meeting was on four key documents, including further development of the 20-point plan, aligning positions on multilateral and US security assurance frameworks for Ukraine, and advancing the country’s economic and prosperity recovery plan.
Later in the day, Witkoff announced separate meetings between the US delegation and Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriyev over the past two days “to advance President Trump’s peace plan for Ukraine.”
Both meetings are the latest in a series of talks since November aimed at a peace framework to end the war in Ukraine, based on a draft US proposal that has since been refined.
