Can people who have been dismissed, and to whom the employer did not regularly pay contributions, have problems in obtaining compensation from the bureau?

– In order to exercise the right to financial compensation during unemployment, payment of seniority contribution or unemployment contribution is not a condition – we were told in the Employment Service of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
They add that when applying to the employment service, an unemployed person must provide: an identity card, i.e. a suitable identification document for foreigners, proof of registration of place of residence or residence, proof of professional education, i.e. professional qualification, PIO listing as proof of work experience if it was completed before 2011, and must sign a statement of status.
– If a person registers in the register of unemployed persons after the end of the employment relationship, it is necessary to submit a decision on the termination of the employment relationship – they stated.
They explain that monetary compensation is paid to an unemployed person for three months if he has spent eight months to five years at work. Then, six months if she spent five to 10 years working, nine months if she spent 10 to 15 years working. Then, 12 months if she spent 15 to 25 years working.
Cash benefit is paid for 15 months to an unemployed person if they have spent 25 to 30 years at work, 18 months if they have spent 30 to 35 years at work, and 24 months if they have spent more than 35 years at work.
They add that the monetary compensation is determined depending on the length of the unemployed person’s insurance period and it amounts to 40 percent of the average salary in the canton realized in the previous quarter.
The amount of compensation for February 2026 is KM 647.60.
