Russian tennis player Mira Andreyeva won the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament by defeating the sensation from Poland, Maja Chwalinska, 6-3, 6-2 in the final in Paris.
Nineteen-year-old Andrejeva has this first grand slam titlewhile the 24-year-old Chwalinska played a final in the strongest competition for the first time.
Both are tennis players surprised the tennis world by reaching the finalsso nervousness at the beginning was expected, and four breaks were seen in the first four games. The Pole was the first to defend her serve, leading 3-2, and then lost as many as nine games in a row against the moody Russian.
Chwalinska, 114th in the world, who is the first qualifier to play in the Roland Garros final, woke up a bit at 0-5 and won two games in a row, and Andrejeva ended the final in an hour and 23 minutes in the ninth game.
The eighth player in the world, Andrejeva was born in Kranoyarsk, grew up in Moscow, and now resides in Cannes, and so far won five tournamentstwo of which are from the WTA 1000 series. This victory crowns the rise of this teenage child prodigy who won her first WTA match at the age of 15.
After winning the WTA 1000 tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells last year, his record adds the first Grand Slam title in his first final. At 19 years and 39 days, Mira became the youngest player to win in Paris since Monica Seles, who was 16-and-a-half years old when she won the first of her three consecutive titles in 1990.
Chwalinska played dream tournament because until then she mostly played on challengers, to pass the qualifications in Paris and then knock out Zheng, Mertens, Sakkari, Parry, Kalinskaja and Schneider in order. This incredible success will bring the young Polish woman the 21st place in the WTA rankings on Monday.
