Every year, on the eve of the New Year, in the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is possible to notice the intensive work of the prosecutors, with a large number of indictments filed. It is the same these days, and the reason for the accelerated work is hidden in the Rulebook on evaluating the work of prosecutors and meeting the standards necessary to obtain the best grades.
In the last two days, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has sent dozens of emails to the addresses of media editorial offices, which, by the way, have been sending them journalistic inquiries for months in vain, to which they mostly do not respond.
Let us recall that this judicial institution previously decided that it would only respond to press inquiries on Fridays, thus completely losing the function of providing timely information to the public and making the Public Relations office meaningless. Such a decision is absurd in itself, but the absurdity becomes even greater when you take into account that the answer to the query rarely arrives even on Fridays.
However, making important processes meaningless is clearly not alien to the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, given that every year, in the last few days of December, they show that their personal success and prosecutorial standards are more important than what they do.
Even the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has spoken out about this, without really criticizing them, but they say that in a few days they received a lot of indictments from the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will take more time to confirm or reject.
“From December 29, 2025 until today, December 31, 2025, to be precise, until 12:00, the Court of BiH received a total of 19 indictments from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, namely seven indictments from the Department for War Crimes, nine indictments from the Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption, and three indictments from the Department for General Crime,” the Court of BiH announced.
Those who are familiar with prosecutorial work in Bosnia and Herzegovina also know that the reason for the intensified work of prosecutors is that before the end of the year, certain prosecutorial norms need to be met, based on which the chief prosecutor evaluates them.
In principle, every decision is standardized, regardless of the fact that some of the indictments may not even be accepted at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prosecutors get the most points for indictments related to war crimes and organized crime. Thus, we can also notice that the largest number of indictments in the previous two days were filed in departments that work on such crimes.
Prosecutors’ grades are important for their careers, given that the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council takes them into account when appointing them to positions, and prosecutors need the best grades in order to advance in their professional work. Klix.
