While hundreds of couples are waiting for adoption: Almost 700 children in homes without parental care in FBiH!

In BiH, close to 50,000 children are threatened by their family situation. Thus, the BiH ombudsmen point out that it is necessary to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the existing legislative framework and all procedures, in order to determine the reasons why a greater number of children did not have the possibility of adoption.

According to the data we received from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, in the last year, and according to the incomplete data at their disposal, obtained from centers for social work as competent guardianship authorities, 22 children were adopted in the FBiH, of which 19 were children aged up to five years and three aged six to ten years.

On the other hand, a total of 682 children are housed in 14 of them in social welfare institutions that take care of children without parental care. According to unofficial indicators, there are more than 400 couples waiting for adoption in FBiH alone.

285 children are housed in six institutions founded by the competent authority. Most of them are in the KJU Home for children without parental care, 90, followed by the institution of the Social Pedagogical Life Community of the Una-Sana Canton, where there are 64, while there are four less in the Home for children without parental care in the Tuzla Canton.

397 children are accommodated in institutions founded by non-governmental organizations, of which there are eight, and the highest number of them is 123 in the SOS Children’s Village. A total of 798 beneficiaries/children are housed in social welfare institutions in FBiH.

According to the available and incomplete data, the largest number of housed children is in Sarajevo Canton.

– When it comes to placement in foster families, it is regulated by the Law on Foster Care. Thus, a total of 286 children are placed in foster families, of which there are 323 in FBiH. According to the available data, the largest number of foster families is in Tuzla Canton, while the largest number of children placed in foster families is in Sarajevo Canton – we were told by this ministry.

The monthly allowance for foster care by cantons generally ranges from 298 to 312 KM for traditional foster care, and 498 KM for specialized foster care. The monthly amount entitled to foster care allowance for traditional foster care is 149 KM, and for specialized foster care is 299 KM. The stated fee for the second and subsequent foster parents was 22 KM for traditional foster care, or 60 KM for specialized foster care, it says. Avaz.
